[ARCHIVED] Christmas Parade, Tree Lighting light up Main Street

Flashing first responder vehicle lights add dazzle to the 2019 Main Street Christmas parade

To launch its communitywide celebration of what Andy Williams famously sang is “the most wonderful time of the year,” Crestview will do its kickoff with lots of flair and festive lights on Saturday, Dec. 5.

At 5 p.m., city officials will flip the switch illuminating the city Christmas tree next to the Okaloosa County Veterans Memorial at the corner of Main Street and Courthouse Terrace. Half an hour later, starting just south of the Main Street railway crossing, the much-anticipated Christmas Parade rolls.

The parade’s theme, “Christmas Night of Lights” will widely be in evidence. Even student musicians in marching bands festoon their instruments in strands of battery-powered LEDs, which, combined with the flashing lights of parading first responders’ vehicles, floats and marching units, make for a brilliantly lively display through the historic district.

The Main Street Crestview Association’s annual spectacle is an excellent example of public-private partnerships that benefit the community, city officials say. While the city provides its crowd-control barricades and city services to keep the event fun and safe, Main Street Crestview provides its organizational and administrative expertise to produce the parade.

“These partnerships are essential to presenting these family-friendly activities for our citizens,” Mayor JB Whitten said.

The city’s Christmas celebration — and community partnerships — continues 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, with the North Okaloosa Community Band’s free Christmas concert, a Mayor’s Cultural Series Program, in Warriors Hall.
