Department of Public Services Hours of Operation

The Department of Public Services will have new hours of operation beginning October 6th 2010.

The new operating hours will be 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

We hope these new hours will work for your schedule as well; the intent for these new hours of operation is to help with reducing cost. The street department has been using these news hours as a test with great success, we are able to stay on the project site an average of two hours more per day. With these new hours we are using a 30 minute lunch break therefore allowing even more time on the job site, this also helps with fuel cost with an estimated fuel savings of $29,000 a year for Public Services alone! Other savings include electrical cost, we have installed programmable thermostats in most of the city buildings which allows the heating and cooling systems to be shut down during the three days they are unoccupied, based on current usage this will give us an estimated savings of $7,800 a year.

This change in hours will also be a benefit to the employee with fuel savings to and from work and child care cost.

Production – additional hrs. per day on the job site
Fuel Savings – estimated savings of $29,000 per year
Energy Savings – estimated savings of $7,800 per year
Moral – Employees three day weekend
Child Care – one less day to pay for child care
Fuel – one less day of fuel cost for employee

The new hours will not affect our response to emergencies; our Department will continue to have on call personnel for the Water, Sewer and Street Departments, those numbers are available when you call our office after hours of normal operations at 850-682-6132.

I would like to thank everyone in advance for helping your Public Services Department to cut costs!

Sincerely,
Wayne Steele
Director of Public Services
