Code Enforcement

Together We Can Make a Difference

Code Enforcement Division

The Code Enforcement Division exists to promote, protect, and improve the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Crestview. Often a citizen is not aware that violations exist on their property. Once advised, most citizens take the necessary action to correct the violations and bring their property into compliance with City code. Code Enforcement’s goal is to obtain voluntary compliance of the City’s codes. In cases when the violator is noncompliant they may be required to appear before the Code Enforcement Board pursuant to Florida Statute Chapter 162 which empowers local government to establish Code Enforcement regulation at the local level. In addition to the use of the Code Enforcement Board process, officers are empowered by State Statute 162 to issue non-criminal citations.

Code Enforcement Board

The purpose of the Code Enforcement Board is to impose administrative fines and other noncriminal penalties to provide an equitable, expeditious, effective and inexpensive method of enforcing the codes and ordinances where a pending or repeated violation continues to exist, including, but not limited to, Business Tax Receipts, Garbage and Rubbish collection and disposal, Health and Sanitation, Sewer and Water, Fire, Building, Planning and Zoning, Signs, Landscaping, Storm water and Land Use. The Code Enforcement Board is comprised of seven members. The Code Enforcement Board has the authority to impose fines of up to $250 per day for the first offense and $500 per day for repeat offenses and ultimately may order foreclosure on properties that are not brought into compliance. This usually insures compliance of the violation. The City of Crestview Code Enforcement Division responds to a variety of violations including, community standards, and public health and safety issues. These violations affect the appearance and safety of your community. Code violations left unresolved can diminish the value of your property and surrounding properties. So, it is important that you know about the Codes and Ordinances that affect your property.

Code of Ordinances

In compliance with, and under the authority of, Chapter 162, Florida Statutes, and the City of Crestview Code of Ordinances, this division investigates alleged violations of city ordinances and seeks their abrogation.

As our community continues to grow and prosper, the importance of Code Enforcement becomes increasingly important. With the cooperation of property owners, businesses, and residents, we can ensure that our quality of life is maintained at a high level, and that the actions of a few will not negatively impact the value of our property.
